The Domination Instinct And The Male Cognitive Bias — The Expectation Of Void
The cognitive bias imposed by testosterone-driven, four primordial, male drives influence a man’s ability to interpret reality. The interpretation of data in the light of his own sexual desire, creates situations of miscommunication, harassment and abuse.
As soon as women start developing sexually, they are immediately faced with derogatory treatment from men and illogical, impulsive manifestations of their four primordial drives. These drives skew the male’s perception of the world, perverting their cognitive processes. The malfunctions of the male intellect produce behavior, which is inexplicable. But it’s only baffling until we discover the impairment brought upon men by testosterone. The cognitive mistakes that men are prone to, in relation to women specifically, make no sense whatsoever, until we discover the mechanisms of reward that relate to the four primordial drives. Once this is out in the open, male behavior begins to make perfect sense. It also de-masks the cogs of mechanisms that make up power structures, political systems, exposing the primitivity and backwardness of our so called “modern” world.
At the base of all gender related cognitive mistakes, which stem from imaginary assumptions, lies the fantasy of domination. The primordial drive to dominate, which in practical terms is a demonstration of one’s superiority, regardless whether it’s based on intellect, physical prowess or experience or knowledge. Walking about the world as a woman, one is often confronted with male surprise. The surprise many times relates to the man discovering that a woman knows more than he unfoundedly assumed. The surprise may also relate to the areas of intellect, experience and physical prowess, upon finding out that woman excels in either of the categories, where lack of excellence produces no surprise at all. The eternal field of continuous male surprise relates to this fantasy, that men have. A fantasy, that a woman will have very little intellect, experience, knowledge and physical prowess, which will automatically and effortlessly put him in a position of authority, secure his domination and in the event of an imaginary micro-contest, make him a winner. Introducing an element of competition between the sexes into the process of courtship is one of the oddities of testosterone mediated behavior.
All the negative bias, prejudice and aggressive attitude, that men display towards women are an effect of the sexual drive overriding their basic intellectual skills, and the kicking in of the four primordial male drives. This prompts men to live in a world of fantasy. In their fantasy, their four primordial drives are being satisfied. Men like to project their fantasies on the world around them, reacting with grief, shock and disappointment, when reality corrects them.
There appears to be an entire range of male behaviors, motivated by a firm belief in the assumption, that the particular female they are interacting with, has no skills, no education, no knowledge, no hobby, and no previous history of existence that would justify her life experience. It seems that even sixty-year-old women, who, by using rational reasoning, must have had at least forty years of adult life experience to achieve various things, often face a wall of polite, male surprise, when they disclose that they have been in the military, mastered a sport, created a company, written a book or made a large amount of money.
Just like in the phenomenon of mansplaining, when the man feels obliged to explain something to a woman, which is particularly embarrassing (for the woman, for some phantasmagorical reason, it’s embarrassing for the woman) even when it becomes clear that her level of expertise surpasses his. The man likes to assume, without probing or gathering any knowledge on the matter, that the particular woman he is interacting with, dropped from the sky with a blank slate of a mind, no personality and lacking any previous history, just before they started their conversation.
The expectation that a woman will be lacking in knowledge is created by a fantasy. How do we know this? If one is meeting a new person and has no previous knowledge of this person, then all assumptions will be rooted in their creative imagination. After all, they have no information to base their assumption on. Well, we might ask, why don’t men correct their expectations? Men meet women of different trades and with different skill sets through their life, it would be wise to assume, that any newly met person, can have any skill set or history, and therefore we can, judging from experience, expect nothing in particular, but surely that some trade, skill set or personal history will be present. Why is it, that men continuously make the same cognitive mistakes, in spite of reality proving them wrong, time and time again?
This has to do with the fact that the ego-protection mechanisms of a man, which remain active well beyond his adolescence, presumably with the help of significant others and on a larger scale, society, prompt him to repress, reject and forget all data which comes into conflict with his ego centered fantasy. A fantasy in which he is the smartest man in the room, the one with the most experience, the most astounding achievements, that in his mind give him superiority over others, satisfying his primordial domination instinct in a quasi-sexual way. For the same reason, famous female scientists, theosophists, writers, and martial artists, along with their successes, especially if they won over a male competitor, are repeatedly erased from mainstream history. This happens even if when they were very popular and influential in the prime time of their career.
Which brings us to the root cause of such behaviors and defense mechanisms. The fundamental question is “why” does a man strive to uphold such fantasies and then try to project them onto the world? Where does this process come from and what kind of effects is he counting on, by implementing this strategy? Knowing that this phenomenon is prevalent across cultures, there must be a universal underlying drive that propels these fantasies and behavior. Of the four primordial male instincts, the instinct of domination is the most elusive. The behaviors in which it manifests itself, can be complex and so irrational, that it is difficult to describe them and analyze their components. Just like repeatedly moving the saltshaker to your side of the table, in order to make oneself feel more important and authoritative. Or telling someone to tie their shoelaces, which could be read as a friendly, helpful remark, unless the motive and the emotions that accompany that remark are not friendly, but demeaning and condescending. These “micro-dominations” are what make women feel so helpless in situations, where they feel they are violated, but can’t really say how and why exactly this violation took place. Micro-contests and micro-dominations are petty, immature games which are often incomprehensible to good willed people, as they have a tendency to reject reality, claiming these situations didn’t happen, rejecting in fact the possibility of ill will and malice. The truth is, those micro-dominations are part of the male’s psychological warfare, aimed to gain control, maim and impose their will on women. Also, they are behaviors which satisfy the man’s domination drive. So, the reason why men uphold the fantasy and “expectation of void” is because they enter a situation with an aim to dominate, be an authority and see to it that his domination drive is satiated. We can deduce that some men have a script, they like everyone to play by. This creates confusion and misunderstanding, as obviously no one agreed to take part in acting out their fantasy.
Expectation of void, imposed by males on females, creates an artificial, conceptual framework, where women are assigned to be losers, victims, beta individuals, just to satisfy the man’s desire to win and dominate. A competitive situation cannot produce a winner without producing a loser. This logical necessity is often overlooked in the analysis of male psychology, and in the studies on gender discrimination. Demanding of females that they perform worse than men, can sometimes lead to women underperforming out of fear of retribution. In addition to this, women have no choice, but to sacrifice a substantial amount of their mental resources, such as willpower, attention and resilience, to push against this expectation and possible negative emotions from men.
The emotional reactions of men who feel threatened by high performing females, give fuel to many immature defense mechanisms. These mechanisms, translated from an intra-personal environment, to an interpersonal one, could be: 1. Denial: denying the existence of women’s achievements, 2. Repression: erasing the memory of a woman’s achievement. 3. Projection: in this case a reverse projection, where men take credit for a woman’s work. 4. Devaluation: slander of high achieving women, which may go so far as spreading made up stories about them to destroy their reputation. Men can become passive-aggressive towards women, who are achieving in a way that threatens their self-esteem. They can also be openly aggressive, and resort to physical violence or murder. One may think that this kind of extreme behavior is only present in countries such as Saudi Arabia where women are jailed and killed for trying to get such basic rights as the right to drive a car. But the western world is no better, the aggression is covert. Daring and brave women who excel in such sports as car racing or motorcycle stunts have been known to receive death threats or become injured in suspicious circumstances.
